Most of my oily skin buddies spend a good time in washing their face--like a dozen times a day. They think that they are getting rid of the oil from time to time and it is gonna make their pretty faces a no entry zone for oil. Let me say, this is a big NO NO. Do not ever again over wash your face. Washing your face twice a day is sufficient. By putting soap on your face a dozen times a day, you are stripping off the natural oils from your skin along with the excess oil. So your skin's oil glands start producing excess sebum to compensate the lost natural oils and this can make your face oily.
Oil is good for your skin and your skin needs it to maintain its glow. There is a fine line between right amount of oil and excess oil and you should be able to distinguish between the two.
Choose good quality chemical free cleansers that don't clog your pores. Choose products that are specially formulated for oily skin. At the same time, make sure to read the ingredient list and see if any of the ingredients can over dry your face or if any of them can clog your pores. Try to avoid such ingredients.
Start washing your face with warm water as it helps the oil to break down and finish off with cold water, which closes the pores. Later, tone your skin. One important thing that i have noticed is that most of the oily skin people skip their moisturizing step as they falsely assume that it is gonna make their face look oily. You should never do that. Instead try using the moisturizers that are specially formulated for oily skin and you can feel the difference.
Schedule a weekly pampering routine and treat your face with facial masks that absorb excess oil like Multani Mitti(Indian Healing clay), Green clay, French clay, Lemon, Tomato etc.
Inspite of doing all these, our faces get oily in the middle of the day or even after 1-2 hrs of washing the face. No need to worry because blotting sheets come to your rescue in such cases.
